Advertising’s biggest day of the year has officially come and gone.

Whilst I’m not generally a big football fan, I do anticipate the clash of big budget ads, fiercely competing to capture the hearts, minds (and wallets) of approximately 100 million people (ad spend this year was expected to reach almost $400m).

From Pepsi and Cardi B to Bud Light and Game of Thrones, the Super Bowl didn’t fail to deliver.

The Brand Pool was buzzing with discussion this week and option was divided on which ad delivered the biggest laugh, the most inspiring brand message etc etc. Which was your fave? Check out our top 5!

Verizon: The coach who wouldn’t be here

Sucker for good storytelling? This ad features a Coach briefing his team… some emergency first responders. A near death experience and beautiful story of human connection. Gets those heart-strings pulled for sure.

Coke: A Coke is a Coke

Beautifully animated illustrations inspired by Andy Warhol with a focus on diversity and inclusion. Coca Cola lets us know that being different is beautiful. Coke is for everyone. Coke for humankind!

Turkish Airlines: The Journey

Lovers of the spy movie genre, this one is for you. Turkish Airlines teamed up with the legendary Ridley Scott to capture the beauty of the chase in this cinematic ad. When can I book my ticket?

Washington Post: Democracy dies in Darkness

Is there anything Tom Hanks can’t narrate? This epic ad gave us serious feelings about heroic journalism and the power of knowledge.

Burger King: Eat Like Andy

Andy Warhol eats a burger (albeit with a curious sauce technique). The scene, borrowed from his 1982 movie ‘66 Scenes from America’ has been repurposed for mass market advertising. Something tells me Andy would approve.
